When a Bride plans her wedding day, she doesn’t miss a single detail.  Everything is thought over, again and again.  From the wedding colors, to the flowers, to the chargers she’ll rent from the catering company.  The one aspect a Bride puts a lot of thought into is her reception and the reception details.  There’s a lot that will be considered.  Chances are, the reception details fill a Bride’s Pinterest Board by at least 50%.

When all beautiful things are involved, Brides obviously want photos of it.  They’ve spent countless hours making sure the details and the theme of the reception mesh together instead of clash.  Something that Brides don’t know is without a proper timeline; their photographer won’t be able to photograph all the lovely reception details.

For the wedding photographer to take the very best photos of the reception space, the room needs to be “Untouched”.  This means that the tables are setup, chargers, plates, flatware, and beautiful napkins are in place.  And most importantly, this implies that the space is free of all the guests.

This can sometimes be challenging to accomplish if the wedding timeline lacks some wiggle room.  However, if the Bride knows from the beginning that having her wedding photographer photograph the reception details is important to her, it’s very much doable.

How to get “Untouched” Reception Details

  1. The Ceremony and Reception are at the Same Venue
When a Bride books a venue that both her ceremony and reception are in one place, this frees up some time in the wedding day timeline.  It means there’s less driving and less stress.  Having the ceremony and reception in one place also means that the wedding photographer will be able to photograph the reception details the 30 minutes for the ceremony starts, while the bride is in hiding.
  2. Cocktail Hour is in a Separate Room
If the Ceremony and Reception are not at the same location, the next best option is to close off the reception room.  The guests will enjoy cocktail hour in a separate room.   While the Bride and Groom are visiting with their guests, the wedding photographer can photograph the reception details.

The best way to make sure your wedding photographer is able to photograph untouched reception details is creating a timeline.  When you hire your wedding photographer, this is something that they should provide for you.  When it comes to everything prior to your reception entrance, the photographer will know best.

To Review Reception Details

Let’s recap with a short version of this post.  A Bride dreams of her wedding day from the day she understands the important of the day.  We create Pinterest boards before we’re even engaged (don’t lie, YOU have one, too.  Even if it’s private).  Most pins deal with making the reception beautiful and unique.  In order for your photographer to take pretty pictures of all your ideas coming together, the reception must be untouched from guests.  There are two ways to achieve the untouched reception detail photos – ceremony and reception in one location, or simply having cocktail hour in a separate room.  Having lovely photos of your reception details ties the whole day together and allows the wedding day love story to unfold beautifully.
