How to Back Up Your Wedding Photos

Backing Up Your Wedding Photos

Backing up your wedding photos on the cloud is such an important step after you have received your photos!  Times certainly have changed in the last five years when it comes to how photographers deliver a couple’s wedding photos!  Gone are the days of physical proofs and even DVDs.  With today’s technology many photographers are using a cloud base, or online galleries, to deliver your precious memories.  A lot of the time, Photographes have to pay for the space for those photos so many have to put a timeline on how your photos are on our cloud base.  It’s so very important that you take the extra step to back up your wedding photos on something other than your hard drive.

Today I’m going to share with you my couple recommendations on backing up your wedding photos on a cloud based system.  It’s a system that I’m sure 90% of my readers are already using, they just may not realize it’s available.

Google

If you have a gmail account, it’s time you start backing up your wedding photos with Google!  It’s so easy!  Google allows you 15 gigabytes free of cloud space.  With that much space, you’ll be able to store at least 5,000 photos.  Unless you book my wedding photographer for your wedding, you’ll have room to back up your other personal photos.

Amazon Prime

This option of backing up your wedding photos requires that you have a subscription for Prime.  In the last couple years, Amazon is adding more benefits to Prime then just free two-day shipping.  You have access to streaming movies and tv shows, plus unlimited space for photos and 5gb for video.  This option of backing up your wedding photos isn’t as great as using a gmail account, however, it does allow you unlimited space.  So as long as you keep paying for your free two-day shipping, you’ll have this option to cloud backups.  Backing up your wedding photos with Prime is a more expansive option then Google, however.

iCloud

If you have a Mac, you have set up your iCloud drive on your computer and drag and drop your photos over to this folder.  You already have 5gb free just with your iCloud account. But lord knows after you back up your phone, you already need an extra 15gbs!  You can purchase 50gb for $2, 200gb for $2.99, or 1TB for $9.99.  I currently have 200gb and use about 37 gb.

I highly recommend that when you’re backing up your wedding photos, you back them up in multiple places.  I’m a little paranoid that I’ll lose my wedding photos somehow so I have my wedding photos backed up on google drive, iCloud, and an external hard drive.  Plus I have crash plan that is always backing up my hard drive on my computer, which my wedding photos were on at one point.  It’s always a good idea to have the photos in multiple places just in case something would accidentally get deleted.  Your photographer may not be able to keep your memories forever, so take the extra steps in protecting these photos by backing up your wedding photos with at least one cloud based system, but two is an even better idea!
