If I could only describe Leslianne in one word, I would have to use the word “go-getter.” Not only does she successfully run the special events catering at Old Carlina, but she also coordinates her own bridal boutique show called Beloved. Leslianne always has some magic up her sleeve, and I’m beyond excited for her next project that I can hopefully share every soon with all my blog readers!!
The Beloved Bridal Show is actually how I met Leslianne. When she organized the show with Epiphany from the Piggery in Barberton in March 2016, I had the privilege to not only set up a booth (my first bridal show EVER), but I also photographed the event. I was able to setup a second show in September at Nickajack Farms in North Lawrence.
I’m so thankful that Leslianne agreed to join in on the vendor spotlight series. You’re going to love getting to know her better!
Favorite Restaurant in Northeast Ohio
Other than Old Carolina? Haha, there are so many great restaurants in NEO – I am kind of a foodie, so it’s hard to nail down just one. I love Lucca in Canton, Momocho in Cleveland, Chop & Swizzle in Akron along with so many others it’s hard to say just one!
What’s your favorite weekend activity when you don’t have a wedding?
I love to go boating, try new restaurants, explore local parks (with my dogs and husband), travel (my favorite place in the US is New Orleans!) and have lazy days (naps with the windows open – sounds awesome RIGHT NOW!)
Favorite Wedding Month?
May is always fun – it’s the beginning of our busy season, the weather starts to get warmer, and it’s very exciting. Also, love October almost for the same reason – the weather starts to change, and our client’s decor color and themes change so it’s fun to see something different.
Why did you become a Caterer?
I have always had a passion for the restaurant and events industry. I took a culinary program in high school and then went on to culinary school for college. I found out quickly that I wasn’t cut out to be a chef – I love to eat amazing food, but cooking just wasn’t my thing. (too hot and dangerous haha) I did, however, discover my love for events and helping a client create amazing experiences. Being part of my client’s life events is an incredible honor, and I take it very seriously. And events are FUN – I like to have fun!
What makes your business stand out from others?
We definitely have a niche in our industry – we do barbecue, and we do it very well. We have won over 200 awards over the last 15 years for our sauces, ribs and pulled pork. Most people view barbecue as being very casual and we pride ourselves on amazing top notch service that sets apart from our competitors. A lot of caterers offer barbecue but don’t specialize in barbecue that definitely sets us apart.
What wedding trend are you happy to see leave?
I don’t know that I am happy to see something leave however I am happy to see a little less burlap and people moving more into the faux burlap or minimal burlap (I think this is mostly because I think burlap has a weird smell and if there is a lot you can smell it at the events ha ha)
What wedding trend do you hope sticks around?
Rustic, rustic elegance, barn weddings, etc.
Describe the PERFECT wedding
The perfect weddings, in my opinion, is something that perfectly represents the couple’s personalities. It’s always very uncomfortable when you meet with a couple, and the parents are controlling everything, and the couple has no say in what’s happening. A little piece of my soul dies everything time that happens (luckily it’s not very often!) So whether it’s an intimate gathering for 50-100 or a huge party for 200+ what matters most is the couple is 100% happy, and it’s what they want. Design/Trend-wise I am really digging the bright colors my clients are choosing this year. Rose gold is also gorgeous and not going anywhere for a few years. Fun food is always a plus – barbecue obviously, late night snacks, dessert stations (donuts, pies, mini cupcakes, individual desserts) vs. the traditional cake. Mirror photo booths, fun activities like live painting, caricature artists, live musicians – ALL AWESOME! Also, love to see the involved grooms – like that they are chiming in on their big day – it is about them too!
What’s the importance of your profession? Why should a Bride hire a professional in your service?
Hiring a professional catering is one of the top 5 things a newly engaged couple need to budget for. (the others would be photography, venue, DJ, and attire – IMO) Make sure to compare apples to apples – every caterer does their package differently – for example, our packages are all inclusive of tax, service charge and gratuity (most caterers don’t do this) We also offer several levels of packages to fit many budgets and expectations. (straight up deliver service, pick-up option, limited full-service options and full-service option including rentals and full setup and tear down) It’s also good to research a caterer before choosing one – check out Wedding Wire and The KNOT reviews, ask a caterer for a client referral. If they can’t provide that I would be leery. Also, make sure they offer tastings – we do ours complimentary.
