Last month, I blogged the bridal detail checklist . These are the items you need to have ready for your photographer to photograph when they first show up on your wedding day. Today’s post is all about the must haves for those detail photos!
While it’s super helpful to have all your details in one location for your photographer, it’s also going to be even more helpful if you have the following as well.
Must Haves for Detail Photos
- Window light
Window light is important because it allows beautiful natural light into the room and gives even light. This isn’t always possible in every getting ready location, but if possible make sure the room that you’re getting ready in has big windows. If it has big windows, keep this space CLEAN! There’s nothing worse then photographing a Bride getting into her beautiful dress in a windowless room with ugly overhead lighting. The same goes for trying to photograph your beautiful details. Your detail photos look much more beautiful with natural light
All this beautiful even light is because Taylor was standing right in front of the window, and I had the curtains wide open 🙂
- Wooden hanger for your dress
This was mentioned in the bridal detail checklist, but it’s important to make sure that you have a nice wooden hanger to hang your dress on for photos. You spent a pretty penny on your dress, so let’s give it due justice with something that is classy and not something that cheapens the look of that beautiful gown.

- Extra stems of flowers
Asking your florist to provide just a couple extra stems of flowers (three would be plenty) adds an extra unique touch to your wedding details for photos. The extra flowers also gives your photographer another option to style jewelry, wedding invitations, shoes, and other details

- Bouquet
The bouquet, like the hanger, was mentioned in the bridal detail checklist. Like the hanger, it’s so important to mention again. Your bouquet is going to be beautiful, and you’re going to want it photographed. It adds another dimension to your detail photos, and can turn a boring shot into something colorful and fun! So PLEASE make sure that your florist drops your bouquets off at your getting ready location BEFORE your photographer arrives!
This photo wouldn’t be nearly as beautiful if the Bride wouldn’t have had her bouquet already there when I arrived
Keep in mind that many photographers use detail photos as their warm up before getting into all the other exciting photos for the day. 99% of photographers are going to find this time to be relaxing and FUN! We love creating beautiful photos for our Brides, and this time in the morning is the first chapter of your wedding day love story!
