Washington DC Engagement Photos
Yesterday you had a chance to see what Katyln’s hometown looked like with a gorgeous setting at Patterson Fruit Farm in Chesterland Ohio. Lots of green, big open fields, the scene from a country song that takes you right back to summer days while in high school. Is your heart dancing yet? (Didn’t see yesterday’s post? Click here to see Katlyn and Zaid’s Patterson Fruit Farm engagement session!)
Today on the blog, I have the honor to highlight Zaid’s hometown. It looks nothing like anything we have in Northeast Ohio, and that’s because Zaid didn’t grow up in the Buckeye state! He was born in Iraq, and at the age of three, his parents moved their family to the states. To Maryland to be exact. Zaid spent a lot of time in Washington DC, and he wanted to highlight his roots by taking his half of their engagement photos in DC last week.
Lucky for me, Zaid and Katlyn asked me to travel to our Nation’s Capital for their second session. I was over the moon excited to accept their grand offer. As a former history teacher and a great-granddaughter to a World War II Veteran buried in Arlington National Cemetery, you could say my heart was doing the happy dance at the thought of finally checking off a bucket list destination!
The three of us made the call the week before to get up really early on Tuesday morning and shoot at sunrise in DC. Between the lack of crowd and the summer heat and humidity that graces DC, we figured it would be best to shoot in the early morning. And what a fantastic decision that turned out to be!
We met at the Lincoln Memorial shortly after 6 am! We essentially had the whole memorial to ourselves, aside from a couple of joggers, and two Marine’s setting up flags! One of my favorite photos taken that day was snagged at the very top of the memorial!!
After we wrapped up the photos with Lincoln, we walked down the reflection pool to the World War II monument. Hands down, this has to be the prettiest monument in Washington DC. It’s a beautiful tribute to the men who fought for our nation!
After the World War II monument, we walked over to the Jefferson Memorial. Now, if you’ve ever been to DC before, imagine with me how much walking we did that morning! Thankfully the heat didn’t get too terrible until we were over with Jefferson, and I’m even more thankful there weren’t any crowds to weave through!!
I will forever be grateful that Zaid and Katlyn trusted in my eye and style to capture not just one engagement session for them, but also two. Especially when they have the beautiful desert light at home they could have taken advantage of for their photos. And friends, if you ever want to venture outside of Ohio for your photos, this girl is always willing to travel!
