We skipped out on having photos taken on our first anniversary because the fight wasn’t worth it with Joshua. My husband, as much as I love him, hates having his photo taken more. He tells everyone who brings the topic up that I’m lucky I got him to our wedding.
You could say I was more than determined to make sure for our second anniversary we had photos taken. When it was decided we were taking our vacation/anniversary trip in Colorado, I batted my big brown eyes and long eyelashes pleading with my sweet husband for photos. For whatever reason, he said yes. I don’t know if he realized when he said yes that it meant he was dressing up for it or not.
So we flew into Denver on a Tuesday, put 2,000 miles on the rental car in two days site seeing in Bozeman, Montana and Yellowstone and on Thursday we were back in Colorado. We checked into our hotel and I left Joshua at the hotel hoping he’d take a nap while I had hair and makeup done. (Confession time, i’ve never professionally had my makeup done!)
I haven’t been in front of a camera in over a year and i’ll be the first to admit I was a little nervous. I also very much felt like I was cheating on my own wedding photographer. She’s the only one who has photographed Josh and I since Spring of 2014. But as our session went on, I relaxed in front of the camera and enjoyed these moments with my husband. The man who I promised forever to. The man who promised he’d love me even on my bad days.
At the end of the session I was overjoyed with emotion. And I knew what I had to blog about when I received these beautiful photos from Taylor Mitchell Photography.
Why Everyone Should Have Anniversary Photos Taken
- Josh and I have changed since our wedding day. He’s grown out his beard for a hunting trip, and I of course have gained that marriage weight! This season in our life SHOULD be captured. In five years, ten years, and lord knows, twenty years we’re not going to look like we did that evening. Even in two years we’ve aged a little bit.
- Our marriage has clearly changed. We’re more seasoned then we were on July 18th, 2014, and not nearly has seasoned as we’ll be on July 18th, 2064. We I look back at these photos I can think about where we were in our marriage. How bless we have been in the last 12 months with a new job for Josh, and then me taking the courage to go fulltime with my dreams.
- The evening we had these photos taken, it was a great evening to reflect in the last 24 months of our marriage and to remember WHY we made those vows to one another. An evening to focus on just the two of us and the life we’re building together. Sometimes it’s the little things that bring you back to center and remind you why you choose this person.
- We don’t have kids yet, back when we do, our kiddos are going to see photos of their parents who are IN LOVE all around their home. Marriage is hard friends, it’s not always easy and fun, but it’s worth it. Josh and I are both products of divorce, and two weeks before our wedding we talked about how we have seen every wrong way to live in a marriage, and by god, we’re going to do it the right way. And while it doesn’t start with having photos taken once a year professionally, or once every couple years, it’s a factor.
Life moves fast, and i’m so thankful to have this hardworking, caring man beside me every step of the way. He’s my biggest supporter and when it comes to my dreams, he has NEVER told me no. I’m so excited to share with you some of my favorite anniversary photos from Taylor Mitchell Photography. Colorado was so good to us!
