The Arcade Cleveland Engagement Session
On a very hot August day in Columbus Ohio, Sarah and her roommate walked around their new apartment complex. They just finished moving into the complex at the start of their sophomore year and wanted to get to know their neighbors. They introduced themselves to several people who would become friends, but there was only one person who caught Sarah’s eye.
Andrew and his roommates had every fan on in their extremely warm apartment, curtains drawn attempting to keep any heat out. What probably felt like the hottest August in the record books, the AC for their apartment decided to quit. It couldn’t keep up with the heat, and threw in the towel – leaving Andrew and his buddies miserable.
One knock on the door would change all of that for Andrew. It was the day he met his future wife – whether he knew it at the time or not. For the next two years, Andrew and Sarah were inseparable. The spring of 2014, Andrew graduated and moved back to the Cleveland, while Sarah finished out her degree. A year later, this Michigan girl made the decision to become a permanent Buckeye.
Downtown Cleveland is one of their favorite spots to hang out. They nearly moved into an apartment downtown, but a seven to eight month waiting list put a damper on those plans. We had a blast walking from Playhouse Square to the Arcade and 4th street, back to Playhouse Square. The busy streets of Cleveland were so beautifully decorated for Christmas. Christmas lights and wreaths hang from buildings, and greenery lined the streets.
I had never been to the Arcade in Cleveland and was immediately awe-struck! You instantly take notice to how open it us, and then your eyes travel UP to the glass ceiling. Decorated for Christmas, the Arcade Cleveland makes you feel like you’re walking into a Christmas movie. If given the chance, Kevin McCallister could had gotten lost in Cleveland and racked up a room-service bill here!
When the doors opened in 1890, The Arcade Cleveland was the very first indoor shopping center in the United States. Let that sink in, friends. Essentially, the Arcade Cleveland was America’s first indoor MALL! While it’s had a beautiful place in American History, the Arcade now houses several boutique stores and a hotel that occupies the majority of the space.
It was such a joy walking the streets of Downtown Cleveland with Sarah and Andrew. I could not have imagined a better way to wrap up my 2016 then shooting my very last session and getting to know these two!
