Ready for a quick story?
Eight years ago I was driving on a back country road during a snow storm. A 19-year-old girl with crappy back tires driving in a snow storm is never a good mixture, in fact that night, it was a recipe for disaster. One totaled car, a split telephone pole, a broken collar, and an ER visit later, I learned several lessons that evening.
One lesson that I had to wait several years to learn was the lesson about how much weight my shoulders can hold during a day.
Until I started shooting weddings, I was never truly FORCED to carry any substantial weight on my shoulders. It didn’t take long for me to realize a couple of things. One – I needed to ALWAYS have pain medicine on hand for sore shoulders and tension headaches. And two – I HAD to find another way to carry my camera on a wedding day. Having the camera on a strap and handing off my shoulder always resulted in a tension headache. The last thing any wedding vendor needs to deal with on a wedding day is a massive tension headache.
I’ve said this before, and I’ll probably say it 100 more times, I’m thankful for everything Josh and I’s wedding photographer taught me while I was a KNP Bride in 2014. When we met Kaitlin in D.C. for Cherry Blossom Engagement Photos she had this badass looking belt around her waist that she slid her camera in and out of. Being the sponge that I was anytime Kaitlin was around, I noticed it right away and realized I NEEDED one. Josh apparently noticed too because once we got back to our hotel room, he asked if I paid attention to her holster. Well DUH!!!
Since buying my Spider Holster two years ago, I haven’t looked back! Here’s three reasons why I love it so much:
- I carry the weight of my camera(s) on my hips. For 80% of a wedding day, there’s nearly 10 pounds worth of gear hanging from my hips. If that was hanging off my shoulders, I would never make it through the ceremony!
- My hands are FREE to do other things with my cameras securely in the holster on my hips
- The holster literally locks the camera into the clip so I never have to worry about the camera falling out and kissing the ground
- BONUS reason – Groomsmen call it my batman belt and get a little nervous when they see my quick draw. They quickly learn that this girl don’t play and they better listen to directions ????
(While this is 99% a joke, my belt does get called the “batman belt” at 90% of my weddings – gotta love nerds!)
Two cameras, two hands. But one hand free to wipe away tears after a first look! <3
Shooting details is a breeze when I don’t have to keep switching lenses! 35mm on one camera, 100 macro on the other!!
If you’re tired of carrying your cameras around your shoulders, or even if you just want your hands free when you’re not shooting, you defitely need to give Spider Holsters a try! I’ve never worried if my cameras are secure, and I’m free to help my brides carry bouquets, fluff dresses, or laces dresses when I have my holster!
