There are currently three couples who I love so deeply struggling in their marriage. Three marriages that are sufficating because spouses are hurt, tired, selfish, sad, lonely. I look at these marriages and my heart aches. As a wedding photographer, I belive to my CORE that marriages are the most beautiful aspect of life. I believe marriages are worth fighting for. Looking at these failing marriages, I think to myself “I wonder what their love language is because it’s clearly not being spoken.”
Loren’s Favorite Advice for Marriage – The Five Love Languages
If you’ve never read The Five Love Languages, let me get you cliff notes version.
There are five languages of love:
- Words of Affiramtion
- Acts of Service
- Receiving Gifts
- Quality Time
- Physical Touch
Every person has at least one language that they respond to, it is common to have more than one love language. To feel loved and special, a person’s love language needs to be “spoken”, it needs to be paid attention to. My love language is quality time. To keep a happy wife, I need quality time with my husband. This may be nights out, baseball games in Cleveland, vacations for two, dinner with no distractions, shooting our guns, or lately, Sonic Racing on the WiiU.
Whether you are happily married, or struggling through a relationship right now, go take the quiz and see which love language you most represent. And then get on Amazon (or go to the link) and order a copy of the book. It’s only $10 with Prime Shipping. It’s cheaper than counseling.
While marriage is hard work every day, I would like to think that Joshua and I started on a strong foundation thanks to reading this book. It has helped me better understand my husband, and for him to better understand me.
After you’re done taking the quiz, or reading the book, leave me a comment and tell me what love you are! I think it’s so fun to see how everyone needs to be loved!
