The love of your life has popped the question, but now you’re wondering what you’re suppose to do next. You’re already making lists, and those lists have lists, and a part of you may already feel overwhelmed. Take a nice deep breath, relax, because Love, these next several months are going to be stressful, but oh so fun! This list of things to do after getting engaged is to make sure you’re enjoying this new season of your life, not stressing about it! So here we go!
Things to do After Getting Engaged
1. Call your Family
First on the list of things to do after getting engaged – TELL FAMILY! I was so over the moon to FINALLY tell family that Joshua proposed, but he did it late on a Sunday night, so I had to wait. But all our close family knew before anything was posted to social media.
2. Get your nails done
If you were caught completely off guard, you may not have a manicure done! Before posting any photos of that gorgeous ring, make sure it complimented with a beautiful manicure!
3. Set a (loose) Date!
Nows when you need to start talking dates. Depending on when the love of your life proposed to you, thousands of other ladies may have just been asked THE QUESTION! Look at a calendar, think about who’s birthdays, anniversaries, due dates (maybe) and even holidays, fall on a weekend. The Knot posted an AMAZING article on important dates to consider when picking your date! I highly suggest you take a look at it! Keep in Mind that June and October are going to be the busiest months for wedding vendors, so if you got engaged in February and you’re trying to get married this coming June, you’ll have to be extremely flexible with your date and venue because option will be limited.
4. Start talking Money
No one, and I repeat NO one likes talking about money. It’s an awkward conversation to have, and the last thing you want to sound is greedy when asking parents if they’ll be able to contribute to your wedding. But it’s also an important question to ask so you know how much you’ll need to save to have the wedding of your dreams!
5. Set a Budget
This goes hand in hand with number 4. If you know how much money the parents are going to be able to contribute, you can start running numbers. A 2015 article posted on the Knot stated that 45% of couples are going over their budget when planning their wedding. Keep this in mind and save a little extra on the side!
6. Open a Savings Account Just for Wedding Planning
Did you know that you can open a savings account ONLINE?! At least with my bank you can. How convenient is that?! If parents are unable to help pay for your wedding, this is such a smart option so you avoid putting expenses on a credit card!
7. Start the Guest List
Have a real conversation with your Fiancé, are you inviting you Great-great Aunt Sally twice removed on your Grandmother’s father’s side? Or do you plan on having a more intimate wedding with just your closest family and friends there? If budget is going to be relatively low, consider having a small wedding because a catering bill will be insane with a large headcount for dinner.
8. Make a Dress Appointment
Every Bride – yes EVERY Bride, looks forward to the idea of playing dress up. Start a group text with your mom, sisters, grandmas, and your closest girl friends if you please to start talking dates to go try on dresses. You never know, you might walk out of the first dress shop with THE ONE!
9. HAVE FUN
You’re planning your wedding day! The best day of your life. The start of your new life. So have fun, don’t stress about the small things. As a Bride myself, I can PROMISE you that if something doesn’t get done, no one, and I repeat NO ONE, is going to realize it except you. It’s all about your state of mind, choose to have a positive one!
